SHOPPING AT THE MALL
Students have fun identifying the stores in the mall that sell the items on their shopping lists

The Shopping at the Mall board game, by Janie Haugen-McLane, hones basic money-math skills. Students have fun identifying the stores in the mall that sell the items on their shopping lists. Students also learn to differentiate between regular and sale prices while practicing "real-world" addition skills.

GAME BOARD
The colorful game board, made to look like a real mall, has 20 stores and shops. These include bookstore, cafeteria, women's store, music store, hair salon, sports store, cookie shop, baby store, kitchen store, gift store, men's store, body and bath store, toy store, jewelry store, electronics store, greeting card store, ice cream shop, shoe store, camera store, and food court.

HOW GAME WORKS
Each student is given a shopping list with items sold at a mall. Players must find the mall stores that sell each item and "buy" the items either at regular or sale prices. The lists have illustrations of the needed items for students with limited or no reading skills. To assist students with varying addition skills, teachers can choose shopping lists with three, four, five, or six items.

EASY-TO-PLAY GAME
Instead of rolling a game die to move around the game board, a player looks at the next item on the shopping list to decide which store in the mall to visit. Making the decision about which store to go to provides excellent practice in critical-thinking and categorization skills. After choosing the correct stores, participants spin to get the regular or sale prices. Prices reflect realistic costs of everyday items. The players then circle the correct prices on their shopping lists and copy the prices.

END OF GAME
Upon purchasing the last items on their shopping lists, players add the prices to find out how much money they spent at the mall. Game play is enhanced with PCI's Money Calc (sold separately).

GAME INCLUDES
A Game Board that features a shopping mall scene, a Spinner with "Regular Price" and "Sale Price" on it, 6 Playing Pieces, and a Teacher's Guide with 24 different Shopping List blackline masters.
