Engage your students as they learn and practice basic word patterns

Say It, Rhyme It, Spell It is an interactive board game that will engage your students as they learn and practice basic word patterns. Perfect for the student beginning to learn letter sounds, this game allows the player to say, rhyme, and spell commonly used c-v-c words. By rhyming these words, students see that there is a connection between letter sounds and word patterns. Word patterns come to life, providing students with the strategies and skills needed to begin the reading process. Simple instructions and a colorful game board help students focus on the game objectives.

WORD PATTERNS
The game focuses on 50 commonly used c-v-c word patterns, including all five short vowel sounds (a , e , i , o , and u ). The words have been carefully chosen to include those that are most easily recognizable through illustration. Each word used has several other words that rhyme with it so that players have a choice when they are asked to name a rhyming word.

GAME PLAY
Students take turns rolling the game die and moving playing pieces on the game board to one of three colored icons (a moon, a sun, or a star). During each turn, a player draws a card from the pile that matches the icon and says, rhymes, or spells the word. The game allows for several fun moves.

DRAW CARDS
Each of the 50 words is represented on three different draw cards with a differently colored icon on the back. The "Say It" card shows a large, colorful illustration of the word. The corresponding "Rhyme It" card features a mini-illustration of the word. The last two letters of the word are shown with a blank before them indicating that the player must supply a new beginning letter to form a rhyming word. The word's matching "Spell It" card also has a small illustration of the word with empty boxes shaped and sized for the letters needed to spell the word. For example, for the word "log," the "Say It" card shows a large illustration of a log. The "Rhyme It" card has a mini-illustration of a log as well as a blank followed by the letters o and g to help the player name a rhyming word. The "Spell It" card shows a mini-illustration of a log as well as spaces configured to the size and shape of the letters l , o , and g to help the player spell the word.

GAME INCLUDES
A Teacher's Guide with activities to reinforce skills at home and an assessment, a Game Board, 150 illustrated Draw Cards, 6 Playing Pieces, and a Game Die.
