Basic Grammar Series
Basic Grammar Series, by Kristine Lindsay, incorporates
essential grammar skills in 3 leveled binders, each including
more than 200 activities. The program offers a variety of activities
in order to help students fully master each skill. Worksheets have
been designed to address the major learning modalities (visual,
auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic). Each of the 3 binders is
leveled, beginning with the most basic grammar skills in Binder 1
and gradually increasing the difficulty level in Binders 2 and 3.
The reading level also increases from 1.0 to 3.0.
Program Features
All 3 binders are organized in the same manner, making the
program easy to use. Each binder contains a correlations chart
featuring skill objectives so that teachers can easily reference
specific skills pertinent to their students’ needs. Each binder
contains 8-13 units. The beginning of each unit includes a teacher
page complete with instructions for motivating the students, as well
as suggested activities to use in class and to take home. Also
included is a parent letter that explains the unit students will be
studying and offers suggested home activities that will reinforce
the skill.

Basic Menu Math
Basic Menu Math combines basic math skills with the fun and
excitement of dining out, providing 'real-life' practice ordering
from menus and figuring the cost of meals. The Basic Menu Math
programs provide hours of fun while improving independent math,
basic reading, and sight-reading skills. Engaging visuals make this
popular program easy to use with individuals who have limited or no
reading skills.
Janie Haugen developed this creative, colorful, high-interest
program after observing students struggle to stay within their
personal budgets when ordering at restaurants.
Each program has either traditional menus, as those used in sit-down
restaurants, or menu order boards as posted in fast food and
cafeteria restaurants. Students 'order' from the realistic menus and
write the price of the food item on a corresponding worksheet. They
then total the items to determine the price of their meals. Large
type and simple illustrations make this program suitable for
individuals with varying reading abilities.

Basic Paragraph Practice
Give students a fool-proof strategy for writing paragraphs with this
complete writing program by Kristina Swann. When faced with a
standardized-test prompt, journal topic, or essay question, many
students have difficulty deciding what to write, how much to write,
and what order to write in. Use this process to help.
The Process
Using a graphic organizer, students write a
5-sentence paragraph, including a topic sentence, 3 detail
sentences, and a concluding sentence. Each sentence goes in its own
box so that students can be sure to include all the parts. The last
step is to rewrite the 5 sentences in paragraph form.

Basic Writing Series
Basic Writing Series, by Janie Hohlt, teaches the writing process
through simple, sequential steps. Activities progress in difficulty
from the first binder to the third. The series begins with writing
letters and words, moves to writing one and then two paragraphs, and
finally leads to writing several paragraphs in a specific format.
Binders feature various writing prompts to motivate beginning and
struggling writers. Students learn to organize their thoughts and
understand the writing process while building writing confidence.
3 Binders
In 6 units, each binder teaches students to write using the “Think,
Organize, Write” method, which incorporates the use of graphic
organizers. This method helps students organize and visualize their
writing, encouraging successful writing habits. The editing process
is taught as an integral part of the program and emphasized through
lessons and checklists.
