Money Math
High-interest/Low-level reading; Elementary & Secondary School, Adult

This series of Money Math programs, developed by Janie Haugen-McLane, helps teach individuals of all ages how to budget and shop at a variety of stores. Students use realistic store flyers to find the prices of 48 common items. This "hands-on" approach to teaching basic math and shopping skills helps individuals learn to use sales flyers received in the mail, distributed in newspapers, or obtained at local stores. All three programs are easy to use with individuals of varying mathematical and reading abilities, including those who have limited or no reading skills.

The 3 Money Math programs are contained in separate, sturdy, 3-ring binders that feature the following three "real-life" stores. Each program includes 10 eight-page store flyers, 96 reproducible worksheets, and instruction guide with answer key.

Grocery Store Money Math
This program features realistic grocery store flyers and 96 visual, reproducible worksheets that offer practice in budgeting and determining the correct amount of money to take to the store. By featuring common food pictures in the store flyers and on the worksheets, the program helps individuals to increase independent math skills, basic reading skills, and sight word recognition skills.

The program focuses on basic addition skills and covers various shopping lists of two, three, four, and five food items. There are 2 levels in this program. Level 1 worksheets have the prices filled in for individuals who need maximum assistance in learning to use a grocery store flyer. Level 2 worksheets require participants to find the correct prices, and are for individuals who need minimum assistance in learning to use a grocery store flyer or who have successfully completed Level 1.

Super Store Money Math
This program features realistic super store flyers and 96 visual, reproducible worksheets. By featuring the common product pictures in the Super Store flyers and on the worksheets, the program helps individuals to increase independent math skills, basic reading skills, and sight word recognition skills. The worksheets offer individuals practice in determining and budgeting the correct amount of money to take to a discount super store.
