Laureate's Goals and Objectives:
First Verbs

  Goal 1:
Student will interact with chosen interface device when given the computer's verbal prompt (without physical prompt) on the Interactive Verb Identification Level of First Verbs with 80% accuracy.
Choose Interactive Verb Identification from the Levels Menu. Any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu can be used to provide variety and exposure until the student reaches Objective #3 in Goal #2.
Objective 1:
Student will operate a touch-sensitive screen, space bar, or single switch to activate an animated creature with hand over hand assistance an average of ___ times per session over three 15 minute sessions.

Objective 2:
Student will operate a touch-sensitive screen, space bar, or single switch to activate an animated creature with assistance at the wrist/elbow an average of ___ times per session over three 15 minute sessions.

Objective #3:
Student will operate a touch-sensitive screen, space bar, or single switch to activate an animated creature with a prompt to initiate a response (e.g., a tap at the elbow) an average of ___ times per session over three 15 minute sessions.

Objective 4:
Student will operate a touch-sensitive screen, space bar, or single switch to activate an animated creature independently an average of ___ times per session over three 15 minute sessions.

Goal 2:
Student will demonstrate auditory comprehension of 10 early developing words by completing testing of First Verbs with 90% accuracy on 2 verb groups.
Choose Test from the Levels Menu. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. On the Parameters Menu, set voice on and text off.
Objective 1:
Student will locate a single picture on the right or left of the screen with 80% accuracy over two consecutive sessions
Choose Introductory Training with a Single Picture from the Levels Menu. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. On the Parameters Menu, set voice on and text off. Set Criterion to End Lesson to 8/10.

It is not uncommon for students at this ability level to merely watch and listen without actively pointing or hitting the switch. This is acceptable because as long as they are attending, they are receiving valuable linguistic input. For the motorically able, training with the appropriate interface should continue to facilitate progress at higher levels, but meeting criterion on this objective may be assessed through screen-eye coupling.
Objective 2:
Student will select the target picture from two choices given initial instruction, visual cuing to the correct picture, and feedback with 80% accuracy on two categories over two consecutive sessions.
If you are using the Apple IIGS or IBM version, choose Beginning Training with Instruction, Cuing, and Feedback from the Levels Menu. On the IIe version, this level is called Initial Training. Choose any category from the Categories Menu. Set parameters the same as for Objective #1.
Objective 3:
Student will select the target picture from 2 choices given initial instruction and feedback with 80% accuracy on 2 categories over 2 consecutive sessions.
Choose Intermediate Training with Instruction and Feedback from the Levels Menu. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. Set parameters the same as for Objective #1.

At this point, it is best to focus on just 2 or 3 categories at a time.
Objective 4:
Student will select the target picture from 2 choices given feedback alone with 90% accuracy on 2 categories over 2 consecutive sessions.
Choose Advanced Training with Feedback Only from the Levels Menu. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. Set parameters the same as for Objective #1.
Goal 3:
Student will demonstrate auditory comprehension of 20 early developing verbs by completing testing of First Verbs with 90% accuracy on 4 verb categories.
Once a student has achieved Goal #2, symbolic comprehension has been achieved and additional vocabulary will begin to be acquired at a much more rapid pace. Subsequent objectives can now begin at the Beginning Training with Instruction, Cuing, and Feedback Level (Initial Training on the Apple IIe version).
Objective 1:
Student will select the target picture from 2 choices given initial instruction, visual cuing to the correct picture, and feedback with 80% accuracy on (specify 2 new verb groups) over 2 consecutive sessions.
If you are using the Apple IIGS or IBM version, choose Beginning Training with Instruction, Cuing, and Feedback from the Levels Menu. On the IIe version, this level is called Initial Training. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. Set parameters the same as for Objective #1.
Objective 2:
Student will select the target picture from 2 choices given initial instruction and feedback with 80% accuracy on (specify categories from Objective #1) over 2 consecutive sessions.
Choose Intermediate Training with Instruction and Feedback from the Levels Menu. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. Set parameters the same as for Objective #1.
Objective 3:
Student will select the target picture from 2 choices given feedback alone with 90% accuracy on (specify categories from Objective #1) over 2 consecutive sessions.
Choose Advanced Training with Feedback Only from the Levels Menu. Choose any verb group from the Verb Groups Menu. Set parameters the same as for Objective #1.

Proceed with similar goals and objectives until the student has acquired all 40 verbs in First Verbs.
