Verb It Up Bingo
Verb It Up! Bingo features illustrations of action
verbs to help students use the correct verb tense as they describe a
given situation. Covering 24 basic verbs, the game requires students
to practice using future tense, present tense, and past tense verbs,
as well as present participles. For ease of understanding, present
participle is referred to as "present with helping verb" on the
bingo boards and draw cards. Both singular and plural subjects are
illustrated, providing experience with subject-verb agreement. The
game helps improve oral and written vocabulary, grammar, and syntax
skills.
VISUAL CUES
Each bingo board features 16 full-color illustrations of action
verbs. To help students see the connection between future, present,
and past tense, the same verb is shown sequentially across a row on
a bingo board. In order to help students differentiate between the
present tense and present participle columns, different characters
are shown completing the activity in either the present tense column
or the present participle column.
PROMPTING QUESTIONS
• Draw cards ask questions that prompt usage of the correct verb
tense. Questions include:
• Future: What will the _____ do?
• Present: What does/do the _____ do?
• Present Participle: What is/are the _____ doing?
• Past: What did the _____ do?
HOW GAME WORKS
Players take turns drawing verb-tense draw cards that have easily
identifiable picture icons and prompting questions. A player then
chooses a verb on his or her board under the given tense and the
teacher or facilitator asks the player the appropriate prompting
question. If the player answers correctly, he or she places a chip
over that picture. Play continues until a player "Bingos."
REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS
Every bingo board features two regular verbs and two irregular
verbs, giving students practice with both the "-ed" ending and
irregular past tense forms.
GAME INCLUDES
6 Bingo Boards; 24 Draw Cards; a Teacher's Guide with instructions,
suggested answers, sample prompts, and reproducible study sheets;
and 192 Bingo Chips.
