Making Change Game
The fully illustrated game board (for up to four players) provides
students with practice using "real-life" money skills as customers and
store owners. A money line is printed on each side of the game board to
assist students in making purchases and determining change owed.
FOUR REALISTIC STORES
Each side of the Making Change game board
features an illustration of the front of a store. During game play, each
student is the owner of a store as well as a customer at the other three
stores. Each store features eight items that cost less than $1.00.
Students sit in front of their stores on the game board and make change
for customers when items are purchased. Stores include Hungry Hal's,
Family Foods, Stop & Shop, and Big Buy.
GAME PLAY
A student spins to determine where he or she will make a purchase as a
customer. The student chooses an item to buy from that store, identifies
its price, and uses the money line on the game board to help determine
how much money to give the store owner. For example, if a customer buys
a bag of popcorn for $.55, he or she might give the store owner three
quarters. The store owner then determines the difference between $.75
(three quarters) and $.55 (the item's price). Using the community money
tray, the store owner gives the customer the correct amount of change.
TEACHER'S GUIDE
The teacher's guide provides instructions and suggestions for game play,
pregame teaching ideas, and game adaptations. Mini-picture cards and
flash cards of the store items are included for students to review
before playing. Reproducible worksheets and assessments provide
additional reinforcement.
