Survival Signs Indoor Symbols Game The Indoor and Outdoor Survival Signs Symbols Games, developed by PCI’s Janie Haugen-McLane, each teach 40 international symbols using an easy-to-play game format. Fun games allow students with limited reading skills to experience success as they build a functional understanding of survival signs. This understanding helps students travel safely and make informed decisions in their communities. Students with limited or no reading skills may have a difficult time understanding the meaning of many community signs. By using only international symbols to teach common survival signs, these games allow students to explain the meanings of the symbols in their own words. For example, students may not be able to read “Beware of Dog,” but they can state that the snarling dog pictured on the sign may be dangerous so they should stay away from that dog.
